How Much Can You Earn From A Creative Writing Blog?
If creating with words and mind appeal to you, then your dream job might be a published author. But being an successful author is not trivial, as the truth is there are only a handful of writers that made it big. Only a handful of writers get millions of dollars per book and see their stories made into films. As slim as the chance of multimillion dollar stardom is, there are writers like Stephanie Meyer, J.K. Rowling and Nora Roberts who have achieved just that. For the rest of us, a good start to a solid writing career might be a creative writing blog. This can give you a showcase for your work and you may even earn from your blog.
If you see interest in only write blog posts that are fiction or nonfiction short stories, poems or other everyday creative works, there is not much hope for profit. These artists may need to solicit donations through their blog or get a great number of regular visitors before earning through advertising revenue. However, you can indulge your creative streak while helping others learn the basics and beyond. Many people turn to the Internet for information, and your blog can give it to them.
If you wish to make high impact, writer's blog should feature how-to type articles covering technical aspects of writing. Covering thematics like sentence construction, character crafting, dialog, grammar, preparing manuscripts, communicating with publishers, searching for agents, getting publicity are all hot niches in world of creative writing... As the owner of the blog, you certainly have every right to insert a work of your own into the mix every so often, and perhaps you can invite readers to do the same. A blog that combines creativity with practical help is more likely to get targeted traffic. And in the blogging world, this often equals profit. If you are vigilant about posting regularly and promote your blog as much as you can, eventually you may build a loyal fan base.
While new visitors will add 70% or so of your blog readership, your creative writing blog will benefit most from repeated visitors, who come to your blog frequently and who are most likely to submit commend and start two-way communication. It also helps if you start a RSS feed or newsletter to announce your new posting to your readers. If you can offer help to other writers while adding a touch of creativity then you may have the formula for a winning blog. Designing the look of the blog itself is an artistic pursuit, however if this is not your strong point you can use a template (many are free) or hire a professional web designer to set up your blog so you can start posting.
